The Good News

This year, the West Virginia legislature passed a bill to legalize table games, including poker.  The proposal still needs to pass a local referendum June 9, but most polls indicate it will pass easily.  After that, the chips are allowed to fly.  One of the state's four casinos is near Harper's Ferry (Charles Town Races and Slots). That's only 65 miles from D.C.!

The Bad News

Poker players will have to wait over a year for to play! A recent article by the Associated Press indicates that Charles Town will not offer any poker until July, 2008, over a year after table games become legal.  Poker should not be given second-class status.  D.C. area poker players have waited long enough for a convenient casino experience.

TAKE ACTION

If you want to play poker at Charles Town ASAP, if you are tired of driving all the way to A.C., sign a petition, calling on Penn National Gaming (owners of Charles Town Races and Slots) to offer poker immediately, dedicate significant floor space to poker and offer a large variety of games

Also, please email your poker buddies and ask them to sign the petition too.  Together we will make our voices heard.
